A few little-known facts about Memorial Day:

·       More than 36 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home this Memorial Day, according to AAA estimates. This is the highest total since the recession.

·       Until 1967 Memorial Day was called Decoration Day.  It was because it was the day soldiers would decorate graves of their fallen comrades with flowers, flags and wreaths.

·       In December 2000, Congress passed a law requiring Americans to pause at 3 pm local time on Memorial Day to remember and honor the fallen.
